Hello,

I own a asrock pro 4 Motherboard and a Mugen 3 CPU Cooler. I have had my rig for 1 year but since this week the CPU cooler fan is not working anymore.

Detail:
Weird thing is: When i turn my pc on it gives the fan 1 rotation. As of showing it wants to power up but than stops. 1/10 times it starts spinning normally and stays on but than randomly stops after a while. What to do?

Things done so far: Unplugged the fan and replugged it in the right slot (CPU fan slot 1) , so that is not a possibility. Cleaned the CPU cooler block and fan. The fan itself is a Scythe fan.

Any software i can install to check if the pc says the fan is running or erroring?

Go onto the companies website and search your product and look to see if they have any drivers however fans don't need drivers so it shouldn't be that.

Is this an aged system? The fan is more then likely just failing, best course if action is to replace the fan

after only 1 year? get it replaced under warranty?

But sound like it on way out.. just replace it..the fans are so cheap it not worth spending too much time on it.
Fan did the same on my Nero recently (after 4 years.. so cant complain).. it did report at boot time via Mobo that there was an error. .and startup was becoming unreliable.. £10 on new fan.. 10 mins to fit.. all sorted..

HTH
Cheers

The system is 1 year and 1 month old. And it is really only the Fan itself that is failing on the CPU block. Everything else is working fine.
But is there any software that allows you to see fan speed / status (working, not working etc.) I guess i will just buy a new fan tomorrow at the store yeah.

Definitely mate fans are pretty inexpensive and it'll save you the trouble, only some fans are compatible with some software so your just best off buying a new fan, it's obvious with your last bit of info that your fan is failing.
Good luck with finding a new fan and have fun!

Turns out the fan only powers up under heavy load. (when cpu goes over certain temp.) Since i hardly am in my room and it is winter the pc is a lot cooler. Which allowed it to keep the fan off and have good temps. Is it normall that CPU fan 1 only powers up when cpu turns hotter? Wouldn't it be wiser to have a fan that important always on? Can i bypass it?

Don't think I have ever seen a PC where the fan STOPS because the temp is low enough...
If you have a 4 pin fan.. then they can change speed.. but usually have a base speed ..
e.g. mine can go from 600 to 1300 RPM depending on the temps.. but it never stops..
so yes.. I would question what you have.. I would expect fan to always be on.
Check you Mobo and fan manual..
