CPU heat problem

Hi guys!

Here's my dilemma, I've got an old CPU (Q9300) on a asus P5QL Pro mobo, and I recently upgraded my GPU from a 260gtx to a 560ti, which I know is severely bottlenecked by my CPU. Though, now I've noticed that it's been hitting above 70c, thereby shutting off my pc. Thus I upgraded from stock cooler to a Hyper TX3 Evo, and it is steady around 60c when in load, and 48-52c in idle. I've also added another cooler to the backside of the fins, thus pull and push. However, it is quite loud since the temperatures are quite high (Everything has been checked, new thermal grease, correctly seated etc.)

What I've been wondering, is if the Corsair H70 will be better at cooling my system, or this is basicly a result of bottlenecking and "disturbing" an old CPU?

The temp were definitely lower with the old GPU (the fact that my rig never did a hard shutdown by itself before, determines that), and why I'm mentioning the H70 is because I can get it quite cheap and money is tight as a student.

Hmm. The H70 would be better than a Hyper TX3 Evo, but your processor shouldn't be overheating even under full load. Is it over clocked? If so, try turning it down and see if your temps get better.

It has never been overclocked, the symptom basicly appeared after I installed the new GPU (My PSU is 650w, so it shouldn't be that either), but I don't want to have a 560ti laying around with no use yet the loud noise coming off the cooler is quite, well loud.

The cooler is noisy all the time, yet I believe thats the stock fans that come with it from CM thats to blame, but the shutdowns happened in games such as SWTOR or games that are more CPU intensive than GPU. For instance I can play BF3, D3 or PoE without problems due to the fact that they are GPU intensive. I did notice however, that when I removed the stock cooler, the thermal grease was completely dry, does that indicate heat damage to the CPU?

It should not be. Anyhow, you may try to apply new thermal paste on it and give it a try. Also Try to change the stock cooler.
