Hi. Im tempted to try out the new windows. Supposed to boot faster, run bf4 faster amongst other things.

Can anyone recommend it?

The next windows is not around the corner. We will be on win 8 for a while. That being said I went from Win 7 to win 8 to win 8.1 fresh install from 7 to 8 not "upgrade." I love it and would recommend it.

yes, i have upgraded, and i will recommend it
pros- fast boot time, very fluid operation, also like the new UI (no aero, more squared corners)
cons - Windows Explorer is wierd (combines HDDs and removable drives in once category, libaries are missing, etc) but this can be easily fixed, and the obvious absence of the start menu

I tried 8 when it first came out.
I hated the tile interface.

Faster boot was nice, but I use sleep to ram(S3) most of the time, and a SSD, so boot time is not important to me.
As to running games faster, I think that is likely to be a minor issue, if at all.

If you have not yet done so, I would spend the $100 for W8 an a SSD instead.
That truly makes everything quicker.

Is it still worth upgrading? Or is windows 9 basically around the corner and in just throwing out money on an intermediate step?

I upgraded from Win7 to Win8. I currently have Win 8.1. I do like it. However, I should point out that I use Start8, a $5 utility from Stardock software that re-adds the Win7 Start menu and boots the computer directly to the desktop. While Classic Shell is a free utility that does the same thing, I've tried both and Start8 is much more polished. I bought Win8 for the stuff that was improved "under the hood" and not for the new UI.
