Question: I bought Lenovo H515 with AMD A4 5000 Quad-Core processor (1.5mhz) to use as HTPC (cant complain for $160) I might consider upgrading CPU. Now, can my mobo only take A4 processors? What about A6? I cant figure out the socket type of my mobo. Any help would be appreciated.

Solution

No. The socket is FT3. See here: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A4-5000+APU

They are all FM 2 sockets(up to the 6XXX seies)...but with prebuilts the PSU tends to have just enough power for that particular cpu and you can never tell what those OEM MoBo's support...
Try calling the manufacturer...though it is likely they will not give any information out about a CPU change.

Thanks, so as long as its FM 2 type CPU, im good to go. However I might have to get a different PSU, to support the power. Thank you
