1) Does you current PC have windows on it now? If it's 8 to 8.1 it will let you upgrade but some applications will not work and will need to be re-installed.
2) Pro is usually considered sufficient. Enterprise = Ultimate. Enterprise unlocks features like bitlocker, application locker and other things that you will not use. Enterprise is also quite a bit more expensive than pro.

Performing an upgrade from Windows 7 to 8.1 will removal all software currently installed on your PC. Your data should be safe in the Windows.old folder (the installer creates that).
If you purchased an upgrade license ignore this next sentence, but it's ALWAYS better to perform a clean installation instead of an upgrade installation.
