Can anyone please tell me what the difference is, if any, between running 2x8gb SINGLE channel vs 1x16gb SINGLE channel, for gaming?

Due to issues with my motherboard A1 and A2 slots, I cannot run my RAM in dual channel. I understand that the difference between two sticks in dual channel vs 1 stick equal to the total amount in single channel has been reported as very minimal. However, I have not been able to find anything that explains the difference between two sticks running in single channel vs 1 stick equal to the total amount running in single channel.

There are even 32gb and 64gb dimms but these are ecc as well. Non ecc only goes to 8gb right now. You actually don't need a server mobo for modern cpus but ecc won't work with non ecc cpus. The ram will not work at all.

By running in dual channel, you have double the bandwidth but that doesn't really translate to much in real world performance. It's a couple fps. It doesn't matter how many sticks are involved, all dimms would be fed into that single channel.

This is true, I remember reading something about dual channel also increase a latency.

Channels really have nothing to do with latency aka timings. The more dimms, the more the ram controller has to handle. This could cause a need to increase voltage, loosen the timings or lower the speeds. But it's typically not needed and I've only seen it with 4 dimms not 2.

I know it doesn't effect timing, I remember reading there will be some sort of "latency" when you run dual channel, which is the reason for almost no performance increase going from single channel to dual channel.
