I want to upgrade my graphics card and I have been doing some research. Between my price range and performance, I have narrowed it down between getting two 7870s or adding a 6970 to the one I already have. OR would just one 7870 do the trick? I'm looking to get a steady 60 fps on ultra settings in bf4.

The question I have is if I should go with the two 7870s because they are newer and a little faster, or go the cheaper route and buy one more 6970.

I play on one 1920x1080 monitor with another one that i have open with webpages and stuff.

Most of the time I play Battlefield 4, sometimes I play Crysis 3. Other than that I don't really play heavily taxing games.

Specs:
FX-6100 processor
16 gigs of ram
750w psu

Yeah, I'd upgrade the CPU. You will get bottlenecked to hell. Don't believe me? Here's what happened when Tom's hardware tried to put 2 HD 6970s in crossfire against an I5-2500K and GTX 460's in SLI.

I'm not to worried about my cpu. I play Battlefield 4 on high settings currently with 30-40 fps and the cpu usage stays at about 80%, and I don't have it oc'd. I've never gotten it to 100%, at least when I'm watching it.

Assuming you are right though, would the 7870s be a better choice, possibly less processor taxing than the 6970s?

Upgrade to an O/C'ed 6300 at least is my advice. That'll give you more of a bonus upgrade than another 6970 or 2 7870's.
