I have an ASUS P6X58D-Deluxe board (socket 1366, triple channel memory, first gen i7) with 3 x 2 GB DDR3-1600 RAM installed, and I'm looking for a quick boost in performance that won't break the bank before I ultimately decide to do a brand new build sometime this summer or fall. I was wondering how sound it would be to buy a single 4GB stick to fill one more slot beyond the three that are being used now. I figure that as long as I'm not mixing speeds I should be fine, but the uncertainty comes in having one bank making use of triple channel and the other not. Would that cause any stability or performance issues?

The biggest upgrade anyone can make is an SSD. If you are gaming an MOTHERBOARD upgrade won't increase performance in fps wise, unless you are looking for more features. Are you gaming?

I have an SSD already, and yes, I do game, but I do more than that. I'm just looking for something that will boost what I already have (ie: a few more GB of RAM) to kind of serve as a compromise to keep up before a new future build. I've noticed that on occasion doing certain things together will drop the AERO theme briefly, which is annoying.

And that still doesn't answer whether or not my proposed upgrade would cause stability or performance issues.

Why would adding more RAM grant me more features?

When I speak of a new future build, I'm thinking of one that can handle Watchdogs at max settings, but it's irrelevant to the discussion and kinda far into the future. Ignore it for now.

I ask again. Will my proposed RAM additions cause instability or performance issues? That's really all I want to know.
