CPU Red Light M5A97 EVO R2.0

Attempted my first build today. Once all components were installed I ran the Post test by turning on the PSU and powering up the machine. The MOBO and GPU both had green light on but the CPU did not. As soon as I pressed the power switch the CPU led flashes red once. The fans spin for around 5 seconds and the LED flashes red for a second time and the whole system powers off! I've rigged up my monitor and it displays a message saying "no VGA signal".

Any ideas on what the problem could be and how to fix it would be appreciated! It is my first build so even suggestions that would seem daft usually are more than welcome!


System Specs:
CPU: AMD FX 8350
CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
MOBO: ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0
RAM: 8GB corsair vengeance ram 1600mhz (2x4GB)
GPU: ASUS R9 270x DCII OC
CASE: ZALMAN Z11 PLUS
PSU: corsair CX750M

I see. I'm in a real pickle at the moment. I'll have another look at it tomorrow dinner and feedback. It's possible it may be in the wrong connector but I have tried both. Although my gpu isn't plugged into either so I'm gonna have to take a serious look at the cables

I removed the chip and reinstalled it. Connected all the cables back up again and now it's working much better. Stays on and keeps running smoothly. Get an output on the monitor detecting, CPU and RAM and asking me to configure the BIOS. All help was greatly appreciated. Hopefully the the BIOS, drivers and OS in tomorrow!
