New boot drive - help migrating settings/boot order issue

Hi, I was wondering if someone could give me a little advice:

- I've just got a 120GB SSD and fresh installed Windows 7 on to it - it boots up OK, although instead of going with the boot order it asks me to choose between Windows 7 or Windows 7 (booting to 1 of 2 desktops when selected - see below). When the HDD is specified as the 1st boot option, it boots to my old desktop, and when the SSD is selected I get the error message 'bootmgr is missing'.
- I've been using a 2TB HDD for around 6 months, and so all my files, programs, and user settings are still on there (including the original copy of Win7; is this causing the above issue?).

- I'd like to be able to sort out the above problem so that I can specify the boot order, and have it boot from either HDD or SSD with no issues. I think at some point I'll remove Windows from the HDD - any clue how I might go about doing that?
- I'd like to be able to move the more frequently used stuff on to the SSD, and then have all the other stuff accessible after having booted from the SSD. Priorities include; user settings (where the hell are they located?!) and a few programs. I've been having difficulties know what I should move across to the SSD and what I don't need, in order for this to work.

If you need any more information, please ask!

Thanks for any help in advance,

one thing you might want to try is in your bios try disabling a second boot drive,

I also know that having redundant installations of windows confuses older bios versions. My computer does the same thing after I installed a new hardrive that had windows on it already. even after I uninstalled that hard drive the bios still thinks that there are two redundant copies of windows because it has booted into two different installations of windows before. It's a flaw in certain bios versions. it basically see one install of windows 7 but wonders which install it is and therefore confuses itself into thinking that there are two copies running and there is really only one.

Hi smartkid,

Thanks for the suggestion. I've tried disabling the second boot drive, leaving the SSD as the only and primary drive - however this just leads to the same problem 'BOOTMGR is missing' prompting me to hit CTL+ALT+DLT to restart.

The only way I've managed to boot has been having the HDD selected as the primary/only boot drive, and then selecting the first Windows 7 option that somehow then boots from the SSD.

I had the same error message previously, when I didn't fresh install but trimmed down C: to around 50GB and cloned it to the SSD.

I think maybe this issue is to do with having two co-existing copies of Windows, then?

I suppose the next step could be to physically uninstall the HDD and try booting.
