I found that exFAT has up to 32MB of Allocation unit size. Obviously meant for large video media drives. I am curious if there's an easy effective way to calculate the "waste" of each allocation size. I've looked on google and just find a bunch of "what is allocation unit size" forums. I know what it is and what it does. I want to calculate the waste factor of these high values.

Edit: I should also mention I'll probably attempt a personal benchmark via several real world tests with each of these allocation sizes soon. I'll be testing on external drives, too see if it's actually worth using the high values.

I'm also curious and won't be able too test on my own this part if these sizes would affect NAS video media servers or other servers running Plex.

Seems quite the leap from a typical 4096 byte standard size to 32mb. I'd like to see the affects of it.

The unused space at the end of a file is called "slack space". For example, a 50MB file will occupy 64MB if the cluster size is 32MB. The slack space will be 14MB.

You can estimate the total slack space by counting the number of files and multiplying this number by the average slack space, which will be half the clsuter size.

For example, if there are 100 files and the cluster size is 32MB, then the total slack space will be about 1600MB (= 100 x 32/2).
