i have a brand new LG 23ea53v-p connected on the mobo via HDMI. but I also have an old LCD with a VGA port, how can I make them work together on a asus sabertooth z87 with an i7 4770k?

OK, then you can use something like this for the second monitor:

Hi z-tech, thanks a lot for your answers!

so, if i get the adapter, one monitor will be connected via HDMI and the other will work via the displayport with the adapter. will both work together? do i have to do anything else or windows will recognizes as "plug and play"?

Yes, they both should work. If not, you can right-click your desktop and select "screen resolution" to activate the second monitor. Just select "extend these displays" under the multiple displays drop down. Selection might be slightly different for Win 7 (I'm using 8 and I can't remember).
