So yeah basically my dilemma is I'm buying turtle beach x42s at micro center on sale for $85 (yeah I know its dirt cheap, like 50% off) but the thing is I need to know if I need to buy a sound card to really use the surround sound. The motherboard has an optical out but I'm not sure if it fully utilizes it as I'm not sure if it has DDL. If I buy a sound card I'd prefer it be under $30 as I'm on a pretty tight budget here. Dont tell me get another pair of headphones or another motherboard because the mobo is just out the question right now, and I'm pretty set on the x42s as $85 is basically stealing from the store lol.

I'm a fairly avid audiophile I guess you would say, as I bought an htc one mainly on the beats audio and speakers, and these headphones are going to be used mainly for gaming, like bf4, skyrim, anything I buy later on etc... And some music. So would there be a big difference between having a sound card and not having one? I'm not exactly one to settle for just good enough but I'm not buying a sound card that costs as much as Astros. (Was looking at them but I need a new monitor too so Astros broke the budget way too hard)

if i were to buy a sound card or basically any pc part aside from a gpu i would go to the microcenter up the street from. i dont like waiting for items to be shipped to me and all the sh*t. i like paying less and getting my stuff immediately lol. and i think il be fine without a sound card for now until my budget allows me to buy astros or some other super high end headset or a surround sound system. thanks for your input. il mark you answer as solution.
