hi guys i'm quite new to overclocking so i just need to know if my 4770k is having problems.

SPECS

CPU: 4770K 4.2GHZ
CPU COOLER: CORSAIR H110I
MOBO: ASUS HERO VI
RAM: CORSAIR VENGENCE PRO 2133
GPU: ASUS 780 TI DIRECTCU II
STORAGE: SAMSUNG 840 EVO 250GB
PSU:CORSAIR AXI1200 1200W PLATINUM

TEMPS:

IDLE: 35-48
FULL LOAD: 85-96

i ran prime 95 on the small FFT setting and i have been monitoring the cpu temps on both HWMonitor and realtemp and the load tempretures on both monitoring software comes back at around 85-96 degrees (only ran the test for 5 mins as i was afraid the cpu was going to overheat)

i am just wondering if this is normal or could i have done something wrong like applied the thermal past wrongly.

and contribution would be greatly appreciated

regards
marcus

Firstly, that's a very nice rig you have.

I believe the Haswell chips can run all the way up to 105C. However, I'd never run a rig at more than 75C.

How did you apply the thermal paste? Did you use the pea method? In thermal paste terms, too much is just as bad as too little. Here's a guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hNgFNH7zhQ

What is your voltage set at? I'd also run Blend test to ensure that your RAM is also stable.

Also, which way around are the fans in your H100i? Are they drawing air in, or exhausting air out? You could try turning one or both around to see if it improves cooling performance.

Additionally, you may be lacking case fans. How many do you have? Generally, the more you have the better your airflow will be, resulting in decreased temps.

Hi JOOK_D

i tried various methods from the spreading of the thermal paste with a card to the pea method, yet the situation is still the same

the fans in my case are all running at full speed and my H110 is using a push pull configuration to pull air from inside the case and expelling it out

the case i am using is the 900D so airflow is not that good as it is meant for water cooled rigs

my voltage should be at stock as i used the asus UEFI to help me auto overclock

i am also wondering if the paste i am using needs time to cure?
phobya nanogrease extreme (used the pea method)

now it stays at 94 degrees max (with my case doors open) during prime95
