Dual Power Supplies???

I think my Antec HCG-900 is dying, when I enable sli on my two 770s I get hangs on loads, such as opening a web browser. The freezes last a few seconds in this case and games are just a black screen.

I don't have the money to get another high wattage power supply and I plan on adding a third card anyway so I was wondering how safe or even plausible it would be to have say, a 650w power supply running most of the PC and one GPU and then another 650 running the other two cards.
I think I have a dual PSU adapter cable, it came with a case I bought in the past. It looks like a standard 24pin extension but with a green and a black wire joining the male to a second female plug.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

According to the last paragraph of that article and a comment from a reader, running two power supplies is fine when you're using two high end PSUs and only powering certain components. Also since three 770s need over 1000W this method is definitely easier than buying a 1200W.

Three 770s will use around 800w or so. There is no reason to use two power supplies when a single unit can provide more than enough power for the system; having two units will never be easier than one. It might be necessary in a very small amount of extreme(!) cases, but that doesn't mean it's easier, and you aren't in one of those situations.
