AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Upgrade...???

Hi all. I apologise for being a relative newbie & thus asking silly questions. However: I'm asking for advice for a budget CPU upgrade. As the subject title suggests, i'm running an overclocked Athlon 64 3000+ on an ECS Ks7610Ultra Motherboard with 2gb RAM. Nothing spectacular, I agree, but it does ok for what I need. That said, the CPU is becoming a bit tired these days & i'm looking for something with a bit more "Oomph" that I can simply drop in. A new build isn't really on the cards until next year, so a budget CPU suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

IMO since you plan to upgrade next year anyway I suggest just waiting until then. Otherwise you're simply kicking the can for a marginal upgrade that's even assuming you can find a place that is still selling a socket 754 CPU besides maybe eBay.

Ah, that's a fair answer. I have looked at ebay numerous times for a CPU, but only really seeing variants of what I already have. Hmm, a few more months of shouting at the PC then! I suppose it'll pass fast enough. :)
