I have had a passport for 1 year, the warrantee is for 2. The passport is not responding, opening up, nothing. I called and they've sent me another but I wonder if I send my faulty one back, and have not (am not able) to erase any files on it, am I at risk of them having access to my files?

thanks,
HB

Driving a nail through the disk is slightly more secure, though that will most likely void any warranty when they get it and see it's been pierced.
Cause it's technically "possible" to recover some/all of the data from a "dead" drive, but it's extremely costly.
Although manufacturers might have tools to repair it and thus the data would be fully accessible.
They'll likely have to look at the data if they were able to fix it for you assuming thats an option.

But when you're dealing with sensitive data like that, it's best to not take any risks and just destroy the drive.
