I had at least a hundred or so word doc. in my documents folder on my laptop - because I am a lazy idiot i never back any of them up.
What I want to know is how - after leaving my computer shut down over the weekend and not touching anything - they could all mysteriously vanish I cannot find anything anywhere. I'm taking my computer in to see what can be done but I'm so confused.
If anyone has any ideas of what might have happened let me know

Hi. You may have accidently moved them to another folder. In The search box type *.doc or *.docx and see if they appear in the list.

Hi

Did you have them in My Documents ?
or on the desktop ? (disk cleanup runs occasionally and clears up little used files)

If you deleted them look in recycle bin

People occasionally accidently drag folder to a new location

are these files Word documents *.doc or *.docx *.xls or *.xlsx etc

do a search of c:\users\<user name> for *.doc or *.docx

do not panic !!!

remember to backup in future. (keep several copies in different locations)

One other possibility is are you logged in to the correct user account ? - the documents files are tied to the user account that created them so if you are on another log in account they will not show up.

Sounds like nothing more than a corrupted profile causing the creation of a temporary profile during login. This should get you started: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-corrupte...

Ignore the fact that it references Windows 7, the procedure is exactly the same for Vista.
