Today I put in a AMD FX 8 core in my motherboard and tried to open my computer. I can hear the fans inside but the lights on the power button don't turn on and my monitors are amber. I think it's my PSU because it's only 450 watts. My motherboard is a am2+ and the processor is a am3. On the instruction manual it says that am3 CPUs are compatable with am2+ motherboards. I'm new to all this computer stuff so I'm not sure what is wrong. Can someone tell me what to do??

The AMD FX 8 core is a AM3+ socket CPU not AM3... and it won't run in a AM2+ motherboard.

Option 1. You need an AM3+ motherboard and DDR3 RAM,

Option 2. or exchange the CPU for a AM3 CPU... Your RAM is probably DDR2 so this would be a $0.00 option if you don't want to spend more on a motherboard and RAM also, but you also need to update the BIOS so your AM2+ motherboard can run an AM3 CPU.

Well you should tell us the motherboard model, and the cpu model. Also you should have made sure the bios was updated. I don;t think am3+ is compatible with am2+ boards those are pretty old now a days.
