hey guys,

im at a dilemma here, i have 2 builds to choose from:

1) i5 4440
gtx 760 OC
z87 HD3 gigabyte
8 gig ram

2) FX 8320
970 gigabyte
280x MSI
8 gig ram
cooler master evo 212 to OC

i've asked the hardware guys and asked before on the forums and everybody said go with AMD, it has a better GPU and OC capability. However, a friend of mine who really knows his hardware said go with the intel build because its more reliable and more efficient, he really dislikes AMD for some reason and keeps pushing me to the intel build.

i want to know your opinion guys, it would really help. intel or AMD?

Solution
You should be able to get 4.5ghz+ out of the FX8320 at the very minimum on a 990FX board and a 212 evo, but a stock i5 4670k would still be more powerful. You could potentially get close to 5.0ghz and it still wouldn't outperform the 4670k except for in a couple of titles. But an overclocked 4670k will win 100% of the time.

You know you could pick the best from each build? If you went with the Intel build you wouldn't need a Z87 with that i5. You could save money by getting a cheaper motherboard. You could also get the 280x with the Intel build if you wanted. If you went with AMD you should get a 990FX motherboard instead of a 970 assuming you want the most overclock possible, and I'll also assume that the only reason that you would go AMD is to overclock. Your friend is right about Intel being more efficient. The i5 4570 is like $10 more than the i5 4440 and it's a good bit better.

yes i want this processor to OC it... if i get a 990fx with the evo 212 what clock speed do u think ill get and please compare it the the performance of an intel CPU's. for example, 4.2 clock speed with the performance of a 4670k. what do u think i can squeeze out of it?

+1

A locked i5 will be just fine with a cheaper H or B series motherboard. For most games it will also perform better than an overclocked FX.

OP what's your budget?

of course it wouldnt out preform 4670k,,,its a 160$ cpu after all, but i like that it has great value for its performance and the fact that i can increase that performance. anyway i just got a MSI 990FX which should be great for overclocking... thanks so much
