Possible Faulty Sound Card

Hey everyone, I just built a new PC a few days ago and I've been having trouble with the audio. The sound in my right ear is far louder than the sound in my left ear when my headphones are fully plugged in. I can barely hear anything from the left at all. If I pull the jack out a bit, I get sound in both ears, but the quality is much lower and I still can't hear some sounds from the left, such as people talking to the left of me in Skyrim. If I pull the jack out even further, I only get sound in the left ear. This happens with both my Steelseries Siberia V2 and my iPod earbuds. I haven't tested any other headphones or speakers because I don't have any. What's even stranger is the exact same thing happens when I plug them into the back panel instead of the front. I've reinstalled the realtek audio drivers, messed with the balance a bit, and nothing seems to work. My mic is also very quiet! I have to yell into the mic for anyone to hear me over Skype. I've got no idea what could be causing this other than maybe a faulty sound card. I'm using the onboard audio from my MSI Z87-G45 motherboard, and I can't find any other complaints about this. I'm hesitant to fork out cash for a sound card when it might not even fix the problem, so I'd really appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

In your 5.1 sound setup..... is there a test that puts a tone on each speaker? Does the Center channel report at the same tone level during those tests? Is your sound card setup for 5.1? It sounds more like 4.1 or quadro-phonic mode.
If you are getting the same result from the rear ports as the front ports... and you know the headphones/earbuds to be good, you may have an issue with the integrated audio chip. Make sure levels in WIndows/Sounds are appropriate(Balance/Fader & Mic In/Out levels).

Try different content playback(play a CD in your CD-ROM and watch also video/audio in youtube..... if getting the same result after those previous checks, then go get an aftermarket audio card and your problems will be solved.

I bought a new sound card and I get sound in both ears now! Unfortunately I still have some issues with the audio fading in and out depending on where I look inside of games like Skyrim and League of Legends. It seems like when I look directly at someone, their voice gets quieter.

Those both sound normal.

In LoL, the sound of game or action is always center screen. If you start scrolling off any direction the effects sound will fade, music should still be there.

You might be able to boost your Center channel in Windows or in your sound card's configuration utility.

No actually it's the opposite. When I am completely center on something, the sound effects become quieter. When I scroll away a bit, they get louder. It's really strange. Same thing with Skyrim when I'm looking at someone who's speaking. If I look right at them, their voice is quiet, but if I look to the left/right a bit, it becomes normal volume.

I have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy Fx, and it's set to 5.1. But when I tested it, I only hear sound from the front left and right. Nothing comes from the center, sub, or rear left and right.

EDIT: I'm not very smart, am I? I set the audio to "Headphones" instead of 5.1 and it works perfectly now. I don't know why I thought it was supposed to be set to 5.1. Thanks so much for the help!
