Approximate Purchase Date: End of Feb/early March... depends on the IRS :)

Budget Range: ~$2000

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, light internet surfing, storage

Are you buying a monitor: Yes I already have an Asus VE248H, and plan on buying a second. It's been working fine for the past 4 years and now I'd have two

Do you need to buy OS: Yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.com and amazon.com, I plan on taking out a line of credit to buy the parts

Location: City, State/Region, Country - Miami, FL

Parts Preferences: No preference

Overclocking: Yes/Maybe - I've always wanted to, but never really had the opportunity, now seems like a great time to go for it

SLI or Crossfire: Yes - I want to play graphic intensive games at their max. I've never been able to do so on any PC i've owned

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080p

Additional Comments: I'd really like a case that has a latched window like the Corsair Obsidian 650D. I may just end up getting it because I like the features and look of it, but I'm open to suggestions!

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: I've always wanted to build a gaming PC, but never really could, so I just used whatever I had around to play games on. Right now i'm using a MBP 15", and it's pretty godawful. I'm going to be playing ESO, but really want to be able to enjoy more graphic intensive games i've never even been able to attempt.

I've done a little research, asked some friends who are gamers, and looked around the forums for builds in my range and have come up with This Build. It's a bit too much over budget for me, but on paper it looks pretty beastly.

Please let me know what you all think.

Thanks.

that is one serious machine. if you aren't pushing higher that 1440p i suggest just get one GTX 780ti (instead of the SLI) and you can save some cash there and pump it to a larger SSD and up your memory to 16G. Also jump to windows 8.1

Best luck and enjoy your build

He isn't going to game on both simultaneously (I don't think). The SLI setup would be great for triple monitors but not all that helpful for gaming on one and misc. stuff on the other.

Clarification on "Future Proofing" what makes the intel cpu more future proof than the amd one?

One monitor to game, the other for misc. is what i was thinking of doing. I can't think of a game that i'd play that'd require both monitors going at the same time

I remember reading somewhere that games won't use more than 8GB of ram, is that no longer the case? Also, windows 8 scares the crap outta me, whats the benefit of the upgrade?

Well if that the case then yes I agree that a single 780 Ti will do nicely. As for the RAM, yes more demanding games nowadays use big memory, even COD Ghost at launch use 6GB (optimized later on). Considering that u got 2 monitors means that u'll be running not just a game at the same time (possibly streaming, browsing, etc. simultaneously) so bigger ram is needed. For the future proofing of 4670K, well im not too sure myself since intel always implement a tick tock strategy and DDR4 is slated for end of this year or next year, means new chip and new procie. As for the comparison with the fx-8350, the 4670K is better procie for gaming, u can see the benchmark and comparison in this site. Also fx-8350 is already outdated and bigger TDP. bigger TDP means racking up ur electricity bills, so yes the 4670K will be cheaper if u include long term electricity bill, hence the future proof.

Edit: forgot to answer windows 8, well I use it myself, 8.1 to be exact. no problem so far for recent games. i don't play old games or games from 2011 and beyond. and it is faster than 7 in overall experience.
