Intel i7 4770k Running Hot

I upgraded me CPU to the 4770k. I'm using the asus maximus vi hero board. I had the stock cooler in with the thermal paste that came applied. I was 100% sure I mounted it properly as well. I got temps around 50 degrees on idle and i was worried because I herd about over heating problems. I got some Arctic silver thermal paste and applied that with the stock cooler and I'm getting around the same temps. I was thinking of doing IHS removal but I'm also worried that I might damage my CPU. I'm not overclocking or anything. It's all stock settings. Any help?

Planning on following this guy:

Well, idle temperatures don't really mean anything. We need the load temperatures to see if there's an overheating problem or not. However 50C is a bit high for idling. But the thing is Intel stock coolers are really bad. So you'll need a decent aftermarket cooler to keep the cpu cooler.

I'm using the same cpu with CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo. It's a really good cooler for the money so I'd suggest that one if you are not planning to do a big overclock. You can hit 4.2-4.3GHz with it though.

The loads on the CPU are literally 0%-5% and the temps are 50+ degrees. As for the air flow in my case, I got the NZXT phantom 420 with a additional side fan. I'm also not planning on doing any over clocking.

If you read my post, I said that I re-installed it using arctic silver 5 paste. I'm trying to look for a solution that doesn't require me buying me a new cooler. I know its only 30 bucks but I'm really tight on cash at the moment.

What are temperature values under load btw?

Also use more than one monitoring software since they are not always reliable. Coretemp, realtemp, hwinfo, hwmonitor or motherboard's monitoring tool. They are all fine but use multiple of them.

If you have Turbo Boost is on and also the Enhanced Turbo (the feature that boosts all cores to 3.9GHz), probably your are also having more than enough core voltage under load (especially under Prime95 because of the AVX load) which cause more heating. Turbo Boost isn't really efficient, since you can overclock your cpu to even 4.2-4.3 GHz with the voltage it hits.. But if you want to have Turbo Boost on anyway, at least disable the Enhanced Turbo (then the cores will boost up to 3.7GHz) and see if it helps a bit until you find a better solution.

Well, it won't change when idling. But under the load it should be lower than before since the voltage values and frequency under load is lower now. This just helps you to use your pc with less heat for now, until you find a better cooling solution.

Great! I guess I'll hold up until I can get the 212 evo and I'll make de-liding my cpu the very last option. I don't mind the temps but I'm paranoid that they're damaging my cpu's life and performance.
