Okay my current gaming rig is running vista ultimate 64bit, but I have heard for multiple reasons that windows 7 is far better. I own a laptop with windows 7 running on it. Is it possible to extract the Windows 7 OS off of my laptop and boot it to my desktop ? .. I have already paid for this laptop with windows 7 and I think it would be fairly ridiculous if I had to pay 100$ for a separate copy of windows 7 even though I already own it, but it is microsoft so I wouldnt be suprised...

No, for a couple of reasons:

1. It will not boot. At all.
2. You can't 'extract' an installed OS and put it elsewhere
3. The laptop OS is almost certainly OEM, an as such the license is tied to that laptop
4. Even if you could, then you just have turned the laptop into a frisbee.

One PC, one OS license.

fair enough, thought as much. And ya i wouldnt have actually minded turning the laptop into a frisbee :p ... with all the updates installed is vista 64bit ultimate really that much worse than W7 in terms of gaming ? (say worth a 100$ to buy a new licenese...)
