Hi there , first off , I LOVE Skyrim. I have modded it to just under 96 Gbs in size.
It was that modding that eventually forced me to upgrade my GPU to the radeon 7950 3gb.
What I had prior to that was an Nvidia 550Ti.
The 550 actually played it quite well , even with a pretty beefy chunk of mods installed.
So , anything above that will run the game very well , even modded.
( just don't go crazy like I did )

on a personal note ; I highly recommend going to the Skyrim NEXUS site and checking out their mods. They have performance...

Skyrim is a game that is more cpu demanding than gpu demanding, so the R9 270x will run it very easy on ultra with your cpu, I play skyrim on ultra with my GTX 760 and the performance of the GTX760 and R9 270x is very similar, so you will max skyrim with that card no problem. Unless you do some heavy modding.
