Does my MSI X58 Platinum SLI have a dying SATA controller?

Ever since I bought the motherboard, I've it set to AHCI mode and it works fine, but recently, it wouldn't detect the hard drive (or any other SATA devices) unless it's set to IDE mode.

This is what the BIOS said

IDE Mode:
SATA 1: [Hard Drive name]
SATA 2: [DVD Burner name]
SATA 3: [Not installed]
SATA 4: [Not installed]
SATA 5: [Not installed]
SATA 6: [Not installed]
SATA 7/SATA 8: [Not installed]
IDE: [Not installed]

AHCI Mode: (SATA 1 to SATA 6 doesn't even show in the BIOS)
SATA 7/SATA 8: [Not installed]
IDE: [Not installed]

When AHCI is enabled, only SATA 7/SATA 8 works.

Unfortunately, since this is an x58 motherboard, it is very costly to replace. If the issue is with the onboard SATA controller, should I buy a SATA controller/RAID card?

Note that I have updated the motherboard to the latest BIOS and that didn't help.

The specifications read, Supports AHCI controller with SATA RAID 0/1/5/10 by ICH10R.

Intel Rapid Storage Technology for SATA RAID and AHCI mode
Version 10.5.0.1027

To use IRST the controller needs to be set to RAID, not AHCI. Single drives will work in AHCI mode if the IRST driver Version 10.5.0.1027 is installed.

I have always had the motherboard set up as AHCI since I first built the computer in 2009 though and it has been having problem just now.

Also, it looks like the SATA 1 to SATA 6 that I am having problem with is using the ICH10R controller, while the SATA 7/SATA 8 uses JMicron 322.
