Hi all,

so i have a happy GV-N580UD-15I (rev. 1.0) running in my system
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3684#ov

after replacing the thermal compound with MX2 the card tops out around 68-70c with
a 880core / 2100ram OC

BUT - i am using a custom fan profile on afterburner and in order to achieve those temps the fans are running close to 100% and that, unlike the smaller windforce cards iv'e used in the past - makes it quite loud! - it does push some serious wind out the sides tho :)

still - i have this idea of modifying it and making my own fans for it,
i would remove the black plastic/fan assembly completely and create my own from
some thick, high quality foam material if i can find some or something similar that i can cut to my desired shape and make attachable to the case/card - it would also serve as vibration insulator if i do it properly -

Does anyone know what cfm's the gigabyte stock fans are pushing?

would i even achieve better temps by using 3x 92mm case or static pressure optimized fans? (maybe 80mm if i have to)

what kind of fans would you recommend? -

one thing's for sure - i could make it much more silent by using silent fans... but then again, those usually spin at low rpm so might be insufficient for cooling the card,

also would it be possible to chain-connect them to the cards fan controller? - meaning - is it safe? or it would be too much load for it? (i'd figure out how to take care of the cables and plugs)

also if the fans would be of the really expensive kind it kind of defeats the purpose... then i'd rather trade the card in, pony up the extra cash and and get a 760 or something...

it's the noise i'm after... it's a LOUD card... as i said- nothing like the smaller windforce cards ive used before ... gtx 460/560 .. those were super quiet and this is the exact opposite

just tried for experiment purposes... went over 90c in less than a minute... and didn't show any intention of stopping there so... - and that's with a open case - 40nm tech at work ;)
and i wouldn't run a 2 year old card that requires a 600w psu and kicks out alot of heat at 80c or god forbid higher... especially with a decent overclock

Over 90' doing what? a game, or a benchmark?

that would be pretty normal if you were running somethingg like Kombuster.

Still sounds like something is wrong though

nope - it's one of - if not The most powerful 40nm process GPU that requires atleast a 600w power supply with 42 amps on the 12volt line - it's perfectly normal for it to get hot.
everything starting from 600 series geforce cards became so much more power efficient - that's why these problems don't exist anymore, gtx480 was the worst one...
anyway... i found that around 60-70% fan speed i can get somewhat satisfying temps on full load... around 80c

also - just so you know furmark/kombustor are being detected by the gpu and it throttles itself to prevent damage, alot of people don't know this about these cards ... i can reach the same temps gaming as kombustor does...
