hello, I have been trying to fix an issue with my new gaming laptop for the past week, but I have giving up and am looking for answers online and am hoping someone skilled could help out.

I have a Toshiba x70 gaming laptop with a NVidia gtx 770m

while gaming on the laptop the screen will occasionally pause for about a second and may do it multiple times in a short period of time, fps tracking programs show the fps remaining the same and diagnostics show nothing unusual, randomly windows would pop up a low memory warning but after doing a little bit of research I found that this was being caused by windows 8 and the intel hd 4600, windows is registering a command as a false flag thus prompting the message, and removing these keys from my registry

{5EE64AFB-398D-4edb-AF71-3B830219ABF7}

{45DE1EA9-10BC-4f96-9B21-4B6B83DBF476}

{C0F51D84-11B9-4e74-B083-99F11BA2DB0A}

I was able to get the warning to stop popping up but still stuck with the crappy freezing, I have ran multiple virus scans, defrags and a plethora of other diagnostics and there is seemingly nothing wrong, even though its happening on different games.

Is there anyone who can share some advice, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to get this issue to be gone since gaming is painful, and that is what bought this machine for!

is your optimus on? have u try locking ur gpu into the gtx770m on the nvidia control panel setting? possible cause is u run the games with the HD4600 unintentionally. Try locking the gpu into using High Performance Nvidia in the Global Setting of Nvidia Control Panel under 3D Setting.

Uhmm I think you were answering your own question when the system told you ran out of memory (it can happen believe it or not), in my case I had to jump from 8GB to 16Gb and that resolved all my issues.

That said, download and run SPECCY to give us all your specs. When do you run out of 'memory? Is it just when playing Bubble Popper on Facebook or is it when your on your 12th PaintShop open layered window with your 50 Web tabs opened in chrome and torrenting the entire season of Games of Thrones at the same time?

I'm not sure what optimus is, but I have it optimized under NVidia gefore experience if that's what you mean, and yes I've changed it to only run on NVidia, thanks for the reply

I have 12 gb of ram and I only run a web browser and one game at a time and it sits at around 3gb, I've already looked into the issue it's on intels website but they have said it's on microsofts end to fix it. here's the specs from speccy

Operating System
Windows 8.1 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i3/i5/i7 4xxx @ 2.40GHz 47 °C
Haswell 22nm Technology
RAM
12.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
Type2 - Board Vendor Name1 Type2 - Board Product Name1 (U3E1)
Graphics
Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@60Hz)
Intel HD Graphics 4600 (Toshiba)
3071MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M (Toshiba)
Storage
931GB Western Digital WDC WD10JPVX-22JC3T0 (SATA) 31 °C
465GB Hitachi HGST HTS725050A7E630 (SATA) 41 °C
Optical Drives
TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-208FB
Audio
Conexant SmartAudio HD

So the basics:
Download Slim Driver and make sure all drivers are up to date.

If you have Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) that is garbage and you need to uninstall it first
go to www.filehippo.com and download / install AVAST! or AVG instead, several people posting here had similiar issues and after a FULL SCAN of your computer suddenly resolved them because MSE didn't pick up the RootKits.
downloaded and run MALWAREBYTES to run a full scan and clean the PC (Malware is much different then Viruses, and again several OTHER people also had malware included that the AV didn't 'see').

Well because u mentioned it was happened while u were gaming and u mentioned about HD4600, i suspect it was the optimus fault for auto switching between the two GPU (optimus is a feature for auto switching gpu matching with the system current load). Oh, do you really make sure that u lock it in your nvidia control panel, not on Geforce Experience? because if u optimized it on Geforce Experience but still not lock the game on nvidia control panel to run only with the nvidia gpu then it will still be the same.

And according to ur story i don't think it is ur RAM. May I ask what game were u playing and what resolution u playing at? and the setting of the game too. the way i see it, maybe it was ur gpu memory that is insufficient because of a very taxing game, not ur ram that is run out of. laptop graphic is not as powerful as desktop eventho they share the same name and series.

Yea I've made sure I changed settings in the control panel, I switched primary card to NVidia and PhysX aswell just incase.
I really only have 3 games at the moment on this machine, world of Warcraft on max settings runs at 100+ fps, crisis 3 on max at around 30 fps and gears of war at max decent fps.

I'm wondering it it's heat related, since this laptop runs at around 80-90c, So im about to using intels tuning utility to throttle the cpu way down and see if that helps at all, ill let you know if it does

Actually might just be simply too many dust bunnies clogging it. Becareful and get the Maintenance Manual for your laptop, as there is sometimes a 'set way' to removing the parts properly and not 'breaking' something because they have some unique process (like my Alienware I have to remove the keyboard to get at the screws to undo the frame to get at the mobo.

I wasn't able to test very long yesterday, but after today the problem still persists even after getting it down to below 80c still having constant freezing, looks like I'm still going to need help :(

I found this on the intel website if this helps at all
" The offending item is w3wp.exe which is incorrectly flagging a virtual memory condition (ie a Microsoft problem) and the new Intel HDxxxx drivers (particularly Iris) that sends w3wp.exe down the wrong path"
could that be causing the freezing or is this two different issues?

Different your issue maybe result of long term damage since you been overheating the laptop (at 100C it literally shuts off even if you don't want it to to prevent it from catching fire because after 90 your literally melting parts inside).

As any hardware vendor will tell you , the first approach is to eliminate Windows as the overall issue. So at this point to determine if this is really a software or hardware issue, your steps would be:
Use external drive, run Windows Easy transfer, backup your data.
Get out your Windows DVD, then download and run from CD DBAN to wipe the drives at the bit level, to ensure no Rootkit is hanging around.
Reinstall Windows, run all updates and options (except BING) until done.
Install any drivers needed with Slim Drivers.
Go to www.filehippo.com and reinstall AVAST! or AVG
Install 1 or 2 of the games constantly having problems - DO NOT INSTALL ANY OTHER SOFTWARE
With a CLEAN build, what happens? Do the games still have issues? If so then there is hardware most likely faulty and you should seek a warranty assistance from the laptop maker. Citing when you talk to them, you did these steps to ensure it wasn't a 'software' issue, nor virus.

I have no installation disk, it's running off the oem's windows 8.1.

When you first started the PC it directed you to make 'recovery' or 'Backup' discs. You would have to look through your START menu, contact the 1800 for the maker or check the maker's website FAQ on how to make recovery DVDs. This is DIFFERENT then Windows BACKUP, we are looking to make original INSTALLATION DVDs.

Thanks for helping, but I finally figured it out, the hard drive in which I stored my games is faulty and had corrupted the games on it, after reinstalling the games I was able to get everything working perfectly, Thank you and everyone else for trying to help :)
