If Windows won't recognize the drive, no you can't use it. What do you mean by it won't recognize it? Have you gone into "disk management" and does it show up there or not? If not I would look at cabling/power to the drive.
In Disk Management it appears, also in my computer and I'm able to open files that I have in that second Internal Hard Drive but, In the window of Backup and recovery, creating a system image it gives me option in to where I want to create the image to on a hard drive, one or more dvds, or on to network connection. I scroll down in Hard Drive and nothing appears, only refresh.
