Sorry, new here. So, here's the thing... I've got a 1TB WD external hard drive and I was using it last night. There was no problem at all but after I was doing some file transfers, it got slow. And now I cant even access the drive. Plugged it out and back in, my laptop beeped and says that its detected but the drive is not on "My computer" or in the "computer management". The drive is not listed anywhere in the computer except in "Devices and Printers" but still, I can't even access the unlocker. Please, I really need help on this one. Lots of important stuff in it...

Solution
I lost one 3.5' 500GB external drive that my ex wife dropped at the floor, and since it was really physical damage, i had to waste it

But I managed to recover the files by using a using a cooling fan in the top of it to make it cooler, so i could recover mostly of the files when the HDD was cool, and when it started to heat again the click noise got worse and I could not access files, and I had to repeat this procedure

So if you can make this scheme, try copying folder by folder like 1st time folder A, 2nd folder B and going like that and prefer yto use programs like teracopy and check the box for checking destination files, so its gonna compare CRC from source to destination to make sure the copied files are OK

ps: to avoid heating...

It could be a driver issue. You can delete & rewrite the driver by:
Delete the drive (and the driver when prompted) from device manager.
Once its deleted unplug the drive and reboot the pc.
Once rebooted plug the drive back into the same port you just unplugged it from.

Problem has nothing to do with driver. Small CD partiotion with smartware SW >I can't even access the unlocker<
should always starts.

Does it make a click sound ?
Does it appear at disk manager ?
Did you try using different USB cable or even different USB port ?

You could even try removing it from the enclousure and use it inside the PC, and eve you use a notebook, get a new enclouse to test if it works inside the new one.

I had problems with enclousures (3.5' and slim DVD) and the units were fine, but the enclousre controllers were damaged

Good luck

Well, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't.
I tried all possibilities that I could but still, nothing. Sorry for this very late reply...

I went to a lot of computer stores to find answers on what is going on with my hard drive and as it turns out, its already in a critical condition even to be repaired. The only way to repair it is too spend hundreds of dollars to hire a disc specialist to manually retrieve the data in the hard drive. Heck it. There goes all my works, its even worth the trouble for now. I'm not spending that much money for it. I'll just try and format it or buy a new one.

Thank you for all the suggestions and helps submitted. Much appreciated guys.

ps: to avoid heating you should use the drive outside the external case, so only connect the case board to the USB cable without protecing the HDD with the case (all cases heat drives) and remember by doing that, to place the drive in a plain surface to avoid more damage to the drive

Good luck
