Do i need to upgrade to i7 and better graphics for next gen??

I have quad 2 core processor, 8gb ram, 580gtx msi and windows 7 64x with only 1280x800 lcd monitor. The reason i ask is i can play crysis 3 fully maxed in this machine and according to many sites crysis 3 is better than most if not all next gen games graphic wise. I am bit confused if i need to upgrade at this resolution for next few years of gaming. Thanks in advance.

At that resolution you're fine, that is not demanding at all. Buy an after market, OC you cpu if you can and that rig will play at 800p for a long time. If you want to get into 1080p or higher gaming then an upgrade will be needed, but not all the way to i7.

gtx 580 and Quad core CPU w/ 8GB RAM will run Crysis 3 smoothly on your 1280x800 LCD monitor.
If you are considering an upgrade, i suggest a new CPU (i3/i5), sell your GPU and get a new one(gtx 670/680).

You'll be fine. I can't imagine any game not being able to be played at medium settings at least with that resolution.

You can run future games (Next-Gen game titles) smoothly with medium settings (30-40fps).
If you consider an upgrade in the future, i would recommend upgrading your CPU first.

Thanks i am holding out on upgrading to i3/i5 core because i will have to change motherboard meaning i will have change or upgrade windows 7 license(no??). I guess i will upgrade the whole system in 2 years time so will be playing in medium setting for a while.

Thanks for the reply. Will be playing medium setting for a while. Probably high on some games as i dont think console ports will be that demanding as pc first or exclusive.

Great! In 2 years time, Quad 2 Core will be the minimum specs for demanding games and in that time, you'll have enough money to get a new one
