wd (black vs green vs reed vs blue)

For general use, the WD blue HDD is good. If you are interested in power saving, go with a green one. If you are interested in performance, go with the black version. If you want to use the hard drive for a server, go with a red one.

so what should i get

Reds are designed for enterprize work, don't bother with them.

Greens are slower and quieter, and use less power - they're also cheaper and larger, so if you need a lot of data stored cheap, they're good options.

Blues are faster, use slightly more power, and are good options for desktops.

Blacks are slightly more expensive than blues, but come with a 5-year warranty.

Black used to be the best, now I hear that the 1tb blue on amazon for 60$ is actually faster, but I haven't seen performance charts or anything.

I own a black and I'm very happy with it. If I was going to buy one today it would be the blue from amazon.

Either way you will be happy with it.

If you like to hug trees go for the green, I'm sure it uses like 1watt less electricity per year for slower performance.

WD Blue - Solid performance and reliability for everyday computing.

WD Green - Cool, quiet operation for efficient eco-conscious computing.

WD Black - Maximum performance for power computing.

WD Red - WD Red was the original color of NAS (Network-Attached Storage).

WD VelociRaptor - High performance and high reliability, perfect for workstations, high-end video and photo editing, low-end servers and performance enthusiasts' systems.

I've only ever used WD Black and WD VelociRaptor because of their longer warranty.
