My computer says it's connected to the network and the internet but my browsers (tried firefox and ie) aren't. Everything was working fine, i turned the computer off and back on later and now...

I only have this problem on a specific computer in the house, all other work fine.
I've tried releasing/resetting my ip address.

I'd be grateful for any help. Please and thank you.

if you got a successful reply from 74.125.229.250 then your wireless adapter is correctly associating with your wireless router (and getting the correct default gateway information) your browsers not working point to an incorrect DNS configuration (or a bad configured proxy setting).

Try the following: go to control panel->network and sharing resources center-> Change adapter configuration:
double click on your wireless adapter->properties->double click on "Internet protocol Version 4"-> Use the following DNS address.

Once there type in primary DNS server: 8.8.8.8

After that try browsing any website, it should work... also make sure your browser has no proxy configured (where to set it will differ depending on your browser, look for...

please copy here whatever result you get after typing the following in cmd: nslookup www.gmail.com

also copy your pc's IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and dns servers to ensure it's properly configured, you can get all this info by typing at cmd: ipconfig /all (just copy the part that belongs to your network interface)

The result was
Server: google_public_DNS_a.google.com
address: 8.8.8.8

Non authoritative answer:
Name: googl mail.l.google.com

Here is the other data
IP:192.168.1.10
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gate: 192.168.1.1
DNS Server: ?? I didn't see that.

Thanks for the help.

Ok, from what I see your pc NIC is properly configured and it's being able to translate URLs, the problem must be in your browser, maybe a Proxy setting or a firewall blocking your browser, if you can't find any setting blocking your browser's connection try browsing with another one like Chrome or Firefox or Opera (assuming you're using IE right now).

This all started with a proxy issue. If found a solution online that required me to start in save mode because when I uncheck the Proxy server it would automatically recheck. anyway, this solver the proxy issue but now i am unable to connect to the internet.

internet connection->modem/router->pc

I wonder why there is a proxy configured in first place... anyways, perhaps the proxy settings defaults itself on internet settings, but try once more with firefox, go to options->Advanced->Network->Connection settings and set it to "No Proxy".

See if you can browse in firefox with that setting.
