Hello, I'm working with this guy who has been very helpful to try and get the parts and specs right for my mid to high level gaming PC with some music creation and photo editing as well,,,I am also interested in getting a new mid level monitor for my main screen if you have any ideas please let me know.

The specs are as follows:
Gigabyte S1150 ATX GA Z87 HD3 motherboard
Intel S1150 core i5 4440 3.1GHz Quad core CPU
DDR 8gb (1x8gb) GSkill 1333MHz Ram module OEM
AMD R7 240gb Gigabyte PCle Video Card PN GV-R7240c
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
550 Watt Aywun MEGA POWER PRO A1 550 PRO 80 Plus Power Supply.

One of my mates who also builds told me to go for 16gb and to also put some more money behind the graphics card. He is also trying to twist my arm towards an i7 because he thinks it is a lot better for gaming. Though during my research it seems that 8gb should be fine and i5 is sufficient without sacrificing quality but he may have a point with the video card. I'm interested in playing games such as the Total War series, Warhammer series, various online games, Fallout series and perhaps BF4 on high or max settings. Budget is flexible.

Feedback would be appreciated. From a humble tech noob, cheers.

Yep, the weakest link in that build is the GPU, an i5 and 8GB of RAM is more than sufficient for gaming

That r7 240 is pretty low end, and you won't even be able to play BF4 on the lowest settings at 1080p (720p definitely though) so you'd want something like a GTX 760 for some good gaming results for those games

You don't need a Z87 board with that i5 4440 since you cannot overclock with the i5 4440, and building a gaming rig with a 4670k and Z87 board for around $1000 in AU is a bit tough so a cheaper H81 mobo should do well, or you could get a pricier B85 or H87 motherboard depending on the connectivity you want (no front panel USB 3.0 with this list)

Cost of Windows included, you might want an SSD, I got rid of that to fit a 760...
