Okay, I accidentally removed every game in a specific folder (around 200 GB of files removed). Tried to recover it, and recovered all of it. BUT, I got this error when I try to run EVERY .exe of my games:
"the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. blablablabla etc etc etc"
Any work around?
I'm running a Windows 7 x64

Yes they were working fine. I was playing a game before it happened. Tried to remove one of the game via it's uninstaller but I realised the uninstaller removed every file in my "GAME" folder (that's where I installed every game)

Try to re-install them, because recovering them didn't really help sort out your problem

I have a similar problem, and was hoping to find more on this thread. My issues is not a result of removing a file, it just seems to be somewhat random. Example I have winscp on my desktop and was using it just yesterday. Today when i booted up and tried to use it, i got 'the version of this file is not compatible..' message. I have seen this before with other programs (putty, vncviewer, kitty, ...). If i reboot my system the problem seems to go away and i'll be able to use the application. I've looked at my update history to check if any changes have happened, tried running the application in different modes (compatibility, admin), but the only thing that seems to work is a reboot. I notice also that the icon for the application is different when this happens, it changes to a generic windows executable icon. After a reboot this may not happen again for days.

Any ideas on the cause?

This happened to me as well, installing a new game, made everything previously in my games folder disappear. Recovered to an external drive and then copied back, no errors in copy. But getting the version file compatible message with every exe I try. So there's no way to fix the file associations or is the problem deeper?

Also, could I sue the game manufacturer for a terrible installer? haha
