I screwed up Windows XP Pro by inadvertently assigning myself to all user accounts and I am the administrator too. No one else uses this PC but me. The original owner of this PC sold a business to me, which included this PC, and I was attempting to remove his name from user accounts. I have spent the bulk of the past 3 days trying to fix without success. I cannot do anything of significance without getting an error message: access denied Please assist!

I'm in agreement at this point, but don't I need to do a complete uninstall first? I cannot remove or add programs with admin. access.

You can back up data but for sure most programs wont work due to the registry , so if you format you have to install all programs new .

Can you boot as administrator in safe mode. ie F8 as soon as the bios screen finishes.
From there you should be able to fix up the accounts.

Just to be sure. The original administrators account? Once you add an account it will likely become a hidden account. To unhide it read this http://www.pctimelimit.com/how_to_enable_administrator_...

If that doesn't work then you probably do need a reinstall or to erase all passwords but forum policy is that we are not to help circumvent security so I can't help you. Any good techie could help you with that should you choose that route. Always remember for security, passwords are like locks, they keep honest people honest but the locksmith can bail you out just like the thief will scoff at a lock.
