I purchased a Gigabyte GTX 670 OC at the start of 2013. My screen resolution is 2540 x 1440. It was fine for most of the year but recently this card has been running a little slow when playing Crysis 3 on Ultra (among other things) and I wish to future proof my rig by running the same card in SLI.
(i5 3570k, 8gb GSKILL RAM, Win 7, ASUS P8Z77-V PRO)

My question is;
Is it worth purchasing another GPU like I already have (new $400 or used $250) or just buy any GTX 670 I can get my hands on ($350 new) and disregard the small increase in performance the OC'd card provides?

OR

Should I just sell the card for a couple hundred and put another couple hundred with it and buy a similar quality card to what my current one was when it was purchased ?

Hey

GTX 670 is already a good GPU :) , selling it and getting a newer one won't be the best option..
As you said the SLI would be great, and you will have higher performance than GTX 780 with 2x 670s

But the power consumption will increase a lot and your power supply might not handle it!
A single one consumpts max 200W so be sure to have a good 600W+ power supply :)

Answer* Yes it is
Why?
+ Highesr performance than getting one GPU instead
- higher power consumption ( will cost you more )

Thanks for the response mate :)  Just to give you a little more detail on what I'm working with here this is my build in detail. Do you think the power supply will be able to handle the extra load?

And the second hand GPU is still for sale. He 'claims' it's never been overclocked and that he's swapping it for a 7970 but I'm still pretty cautious about buying second hand computer parts :/  Do you think it's worth risking it ?

Good that you told me your system specs!
GTX 670 as i wrote above consumpts 200W max, and if you are going to use it for games it will :)
Getting a second one would not be the best choise for a 600W, I'm reading that the max peak power in can deliver is even 500W. You will need at least a 750W PSU for 2x 670s

Fixing my answer, *do not get another gpu! Your power supply won't handle it.

Answer :

If you can sell it go for it, the max what you can get for your PC as I see is a GTX 770 or a 280x but that build would be at it's edge :)

Ok well I guess this year I might go back to 1080p gaming and just do a bigger overhaul next year. Thanks for the help mate, you just saved me a lot of time, money and hassel :)
