Unrecognized PC on LAN

HAve several PC's (hardwired) and laptops(wireless).
I recently renewed my main PC with Win 7, all works, except: it is not seen by the other computer's Network page.
I can use the UNC (\\Rainer\) and it is found, but does not show under networks in any of the other computers,
This same \\Rainer PC, however, does (under the network explorer) show ALL the other PC's.
More info:
I have an Actiontec Wireless Modem/ Router as well as one additional switch and another switch solely used for IP-surveillance cameras.
I did ask the Router to only assign addresses from 150-250 and made my \\Rainer PC static at ip 98.
I did search internet and this forum and have made sure that my WIN 7 Network is shared on each, that no password is needed (even though I still have to add the ID and password to gain access to the \\Rainer computer).
I did try and see if there is anything in Windows Firewall but it looks correct, sharing is on etc.

Any help would be appreciated!!.

When you initially connected the pc to the LAN what location did you set your network to? Home, Public or Work. Public will hide your pc from the other devices on the network, while Home and Work will allow other devices to see your pc.

all of the PC's/Laptops are assigned as work networks, and in all the SHARING settings I used ID and Password instead of LET WINDOWS ASSIGN HOMEGROUPS, as I had problems with Homegroups in the past.

I broke down and labeled the \\Rainer PC as HOME network, which solved the problem instantly - though I do not understand why and unfortunately am now salve to the HomeGroup again.
Hmm, frustrating
