My grandson lives in New Orleans, he's an artist at Jackson Square. He sent me a HP6000 to fix. The cd/dvd is broke his hdd was bad. I ordered a sata/ide usb to try to format the hdd. shows up in device manager but never in "my computer"! Oh the hdd is new.. Please help.. Thank you. im trying to put vista home prem. My laptop is win 8!

If you install a blank hard drive into his computer, and insert his operating system DVD and boot, it should automatically setup the drive and install for you.
