So i'm wondering which one will perform better or would be more worth it..
i've tried looking for benchmarks on the msi 290x but couldn't find any.. or i suck and there are some out there.. Nevertheless...

In addition, i'll be mostly gaming at 1920x1080 and may be upgrading in the future (the monitor)

Which one?

R9 290x is better than 780---it's great. Though it has higher TDP, which shouldn't bother that much with MSI's custom cooler and fans. Comparison of reference cards:

General specs of the cards you mentioned:

Another benchmark where R9 290x beats GTX 780:

For 1080p you don't need 290x though, so if you have budget limitations you can pick 780. But since you mentioned possible upgrade in future then R9 290x is a wise choice.

Heres a review on the MSI 290X Gaming: http://
I too own this card, its a beast, and the MSI cooler is very good, quiet, and keeps the card aroun 70-75C in gaming. Highest temp was 80C after 15 min Valley benchmark loop.

Nice! Cheers for that. I guess it will be the MSI 290x then.
Also, have you overclocked the card at all?
