Stability of an i7 4770k at 4.2 ghz

well... the performance difference between the 3770k and 4770k at stock is about 10%, however the 3770k will normally OC higher so it is a moot point really. I would say upgrade your video card instead. or get an SSD. You'll notice those upgrades more than you'd notice a difference between those two cpus

I think he has the non-K version of the i7 3770. The upgrade to a 4770K *could* be justifiable if this is the case, but I do agree maybe a GPU upgrade would be better.

@JPorter99 : Like Ethereal Essence said, you'd see at least a 10% performance increase over the 3770 with the 4770K as per more efficient clock cycles. With the 4770K clocked at 4.2GHz you're likely to see an even bigger performance increase. That being said we don't really know what else your system has, so we couldn't suggest a better upgrade option perhaps; again as Ethereal Essence suggested. You might be better off upgrading something else in your system as the 3770 is still a strong processor.

The 4770k is not WORSE at overclocking. That's just false. It does get hotter. Therefore, if you have adequate cooling (you basically need an aftermarket cooler), then it is a great CPU.
Also, that 10% increase from the 3770k is present in literally every benchmark on the web. So it's a consistent performance increase.

You should be good to go then. The 4770K would compliment your setup nicely, and do well for future endeavors.

This, it'll perform a LOOOOOOOT better

You probably won't run into much issues if you read a few guides on OCing properly
