Is is possible to have 2x4GB in the 1st and 3rd socket and 2x2GB in the 2nd and 4th socket.

The motherboard is a MSI 970A-G42.

The 2x4GB is clocked at 1600Mhz and has a latency of 9-9-9-24. The voltage is 1.5V.

The 2x2GB is clocked at 1333Mhz and has a latency of 7-8-8-20. The voltage is 1.5v.

Would this setup work?

Thanks

It should, but it will downclock to the lowest common denominator. You'll only get 1333 out of the whole block of memory, and at probably higher latency than the 7-8-8-20 that's assigned to the 2GB modules. You'll likely get 2T command rate, as well, which will cut your performance by another 20% or so. You're better off with just the 4GB modules.

I was planning to build a new pc and I was thinking I have 2 spare RAM sockets and 2 spare pieces of RAM so I might aswell use them. But unfortunately it doesnt work like that and slows eveything down.
