The Rock mobos are very good mobos, and they can offer more bang for the buck as they specialize in mobos and aren't as diverse as Asus and Gigabyte who also get into GPUs, laptops, tablets, PCs, networking and the like, to where they can command higher prices. The Rock is also keeping margins lower to continue to build name recognition. As far as sound quality, in part it can depend on how the sound chipset is integrated into the BIOS to work with the rest of the mobo components and various operating systems, it often improves over time as the BIOSs are updated, same is true of other components.

What is the difference between those A, K, etc. editions?

Yeah I was thinking about getting this one, but I'm not sure. I don't wanna feel sorry later, if I found better mobo for same price.

If it's the Fatal1ty Killer then get Extreme 4. It's better than Asus z87-A in terms of vrm complexity, mosfet, inductor and capacitor quality. Better audio chip and slightly better NIC.

Are you sure? I've read some reviews on Newegg about Asrock Extreme 4, and people say that sound quality is horrible. So many different opinions...now I REALLY don't know which one to get

Well, they might have a defective chip or bad ears. It has Realtek's latest audio codec which is ALC1150 with an EMI shielding. It's slightly better than ALC892 and ALC898 in terms of SNR.

It's not logical that ASRock Extreme 4 has terrible sound quality while another board with same or worse audio chip and codec, similar capacitors and shield having great sound quality.

I've just ordered ASRock Z87 Extreme4. Well, I read a lot of reviews people complaining about bad "onboard sound", but I guess I'll have to test it myself.

Another thing is...why is Asrock so much cheaper than others MOBO manufacturers? Asus's or Gigabyte's models that are equivalent to Asrock's Extreme 4, costs 20€ more. I mean, I know ASRock had a bad reputation in the past, but I still don't know why are they so much cheaper.

Well looks like they are trying to gain some more market share by offering a little bit more quality in the same price range. Extreme 4 and z87-A has the same price but ASRock is offering little bit more feature & quality per dollar in this case.

About to sound quality, I really don't know. It sounds just not logical.

Extreme 4 is a good choice. It also has dual bios and debug led which Z87-A doesn't have (I forgot to mention earlier).
