I have the space for both the small and the extended one however is there any need for the extended, why should i have my keyboard on the mat also? will it looks better? will it protect my keyboard or table if i get the extended or is it just worth getting the small version.

i really dont see a reason for the extended pads where you place the keyboard on them. its a bit pointless.

i do however say that having a pad larger than the 8x9.5 of stanard mousepads can be useful. for example i use an 11x17 sized one (see link in my sig for photo)

what is nice about a larger pad is that if you need to reposition your arm on the desk to get comfortable or to change position you dont have to shift your pad around. honestly i can get by with either and i use a normal sized pad for my laptop when traveling but i do prefer the larger one at home.

its ultimately down to choice. i can see not going with a 6x6 or very small pad but an 8x9.5 is fine. i think a 11x17 is better but thats also my personal preference.

in any case i paid $10 for my large pad. a good deal considering what they want for the razer. for that price i can have a custom printed mouspad from ebay/amazon made just for me using my own artwork at around 11x17 size.

--------

the amount of movement you make with your mouse has to do with your dpi settings as well as mouse speed settings. with high speed and high dpi you will not move much. with high dpi and low speed or low dpi high speed you may move much more.
