Trying to figure out if i need a new motherboard or cpu or both, just recieved from newegg today, biostar TA970 board, and AMD Athlon II X4 750k CPU. Put Cpu in motherboard, installed video card and ram, went to do a bench test, and cpu fan not spinning, removed everything, applied power supply to motherboard with only cpu, NO FAN, as soon as i turn on the power supply i get a ticking from the cpu, the computer not even turned on, just power applied to the board..... please help, first ever build, and i am quickly starting to think ive wasted my time, or money

thanks

no post beeps at all, the cpu fan was working when I installed the cpu, video card and ram initially, but when it didn't work and I took video card and ram out, the cpu fan stopped spinning, that's when I noticed the ticking noise from cpu, even if the heat sync fan is disconnected from the board, nothing at all on the board, but the cpu in the socket, and the power supply on (haven't jumped pins to start up yet) there is a ticking directly from the cpu

well, with fussing with it, trying to see if I could get the ticking to stop if I removed the cpu, and then reinstalled it, a few pins broke off the cpu and are now stuck in the mb socket....

so, I have purchased a new board, and cpu now :(, hopefully it works

New board and cpu work perfectly, ended up just purchasing in town, cost a lot more, but at least if i have had any issues it would be a quick swap. Replaced with Asus A88x-Plus Board, and AMD a-8 5600k black edition cpu. So happy when it powered up right away. I think, maybe this can be confirmed, but i think i ordered the wrong board, and cpu combo from newegg, even though i selected all options for boards that would work with my original AMD Athlon II X4 750. Cause i notice on the box of my biostar, it says it support FX series and 9-series chipsets.

If its wrong, its my ow fault for not verifying.

Thaks Anyway tho :)
