Hello, everyone I am currently planning my first ever computer build and i am in need of some suggestions and proofreading. I have never built a computer before, however I have cracked them open a few times and looks at components and what not in both school and at home. I consider myself to be technically inclined and i don"t expect any problems during the build I just want to make sure I have chosen my components correctly.

I also have some old components from a previous store bought computer that failed on me that I am hoping to recycle. When the computer failed what happened was that all of the USB ports stopped working and I could not communicate with the computer via keyboard and mouse. Upon further inspection I found a chip on the motherboard which I believe to be the integrated graphics unit which looked a bit burned when i removed the heatsink from it. The motherboard was a M2N78-LA Violet 6

The components I am hoping to recycle are from an HP p6316:
hardrive- Hitachi SATA 3.0 GB/s, 640GB, 3.5", 7200 RPM model: HDt721064SLA360 http://

Optical drive- HP SATA DVD rewriter model: GH40L http://

Ram- Elpida 2x2GB, 2rx8 PC3-10600U-9-10-B0 240 pin DIMM, DDR3-1333 1.5v http://

Ethernet card- LSI Concorde C40 http://

Exhaust fan- Sunon KD1209PTS2 90mmx25mm fan, 2400 rpm, 44CFM http://

Power supply- Bestec ATX-250-122 250 watt power supply.<----- I dont think this will be sufficient for my needs. http://

And here is the list I have come up with:
CPU: intel pentium G3420 http://

CPU cooling: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 http://

Motherboard: Gigabyte
GA-H87M-D3H http://

RAM: If i cannot recycle my old RAM... G.Skill
F3-10666CL9S-2GBNS http://

Harddrive: If I cannon recycle my old HD... Hitachi A7K1000-750http://

Video card: XFX hd557xznfrhttp:// this might be counter productive as I believe the CPU supports HD video but I included it just to be sure

Audio card: Asus xonar dx http://

Case: Cooler master N200 http://

Power supply: If i cannot recycle my old PSU... Corsair CX500M http://

Assuming that I dont recycle any of my component this comes out to $550. I am hoping i can re use the hard drive and the optical drive at least. I can probably drop the Video card also since the CPU says it supports Intel HD graphics. For my usage do you think I will need additional cooling? maybe for the sound card? If i do I was thinking about adding a cooling fan controller and switching out the case for one that has an additional 5.25 external port

Approximate Purchase Date: within a month or two

Budget Range: $500 max for the tower and components

System Usage from Most to Least Important: web surfing, email, MS word, Youtube videos in HD, downloading and watching movies, listening to music.

Are you buying a monitor: yes, but it will be a seperate budget.

Parts to Upgrade:

Do you need to buy OS: yes

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg, amazon, ebay, pcpartpicker

Location: hammond,IN.

Parts Preferences: intel

Overclocking: maybe, isnt it only for games? If so then no since I am not a gamer

SLI or Crossfire: no

Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1080, Asus VH238H or other for around $150. im looking for a 23"

Additional Comments: I am looking for an everyday computer. I am a student so I need to have internet access at all times which is why I want to build my own. In addition I love listening to music and I plan on purchasing some decent computer speakers which is one of the reasons I have an audio card in my build. I am not a gamer so I do not play CPU intensive games, but when I rarely do play games they are flashplayer games on game websites nothing very intensive, games are at the bottom of my barrel.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Need my own computer

Solution
You can use your old RAM and Hard drive .

If you use the old hard drive you will have to reinstall windows though

I wouldnt install a graphics card . Just check the outputs on the mb for the processor graphics are what you need .

THe TX3 cooler is too small and has a noiser fan than I would like for a pc where background sound might be important . Instead spend a little more on a down draft Noctua or Scythe

I recently got a set of Microlab 7C speakers .
Really good sound , very low price

What about the optical drive and ethernet card? The motherboard I chose has a gbe port, is that the equivalent?

Im thinking about going with the Noctua NH-14, it has tons of good reviews or the cheaper Noctua
NH-U9B SE2

Noctua
NH-U9B SE2 http://

Noctua NHD-14 http://

what do you think about the audio card?

for what I need do you think the CPU I chose will be fine?

You dont need a really high performance cooler . But one with a bigger fan will be quieter . If you want to use a tower cooler then something like the this Xigmatek
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233082
is a good mix of price and low noise

Ethernet is built into your motherboard , but nothing stops you adding another ethernet card in too .
You will be able to recycle the DVD drive too

I havent used a sound card for a decade or so . Back then you had to because motherboards didnt have sound . Through computer speakers the onboard sound is plenty good enough for most users . But you have specific needs with sound production . I just dont know anything about sound card quality
