Hey everyone today I tried to OC my cpu to 4.2 ghz with 1.2v and its temps are a little too high when I use the intel burn test! Im using the Hyper 212 evo, what should I do please help

Solution
I'd try to reapply the thermal paste. First time I did it on a hyper 212 EVO... Well lets just say I had to do it 3 or so times. That cooler is a pain to deal with sometimes.

sure you have enough thermal paste applied?

I actually thought I had too much, to be honest the installation of the evo went harder then it shouldve and I might have messed up there, I applied about as much as 2 uncooked grains of rice

hmm, try stresstesting with prime95 and check the temps with hw monitor
Do you have enough airflow in the case? Or dust?

Hmm, that'd cause it. Also assuming you didn't know, always do 1 full turn (some say half) then move over to the other side diagonally, 1 full turn, etc.

For a full 70 bucks cheaper, I can deal with a cooler thats a bit of a pain. Not like your gonna take it off soon after getting it right anyhow.

Yea I just didn't think the x bracket wouldn't line up, also I will upgrade anyways here soon but thanks, I shall reapply the paste and re install the fan

make sure to get the cooler set propperly and then tighten the screws partially by hand and then finish off tightening them in stages (in an order like this: top left - bottom right - bottom left - top right - repeat)

have you set up the x bracket correctly for your socket type? (its adjustable for different sockets because for some reason someone decided that changing the way it mounts every 5 seconds was a great user friendly idea or something - theres probably a logical explanation but hey)

I'm not sure if I was doing it wrong or if it was just my cheap mobo that had its socket holes just a tad off, but after two hours of trying to get the cooler on properly I Just said eff this and used the force of a thousand suns to just smash the thing in there.

Don't really recommend that, but it worked for me...

I'm not surprised by the temp honestly. Intel Burn Test is not something I personally would use to test an Ivy/Haswell chip, ever. 12 hours of prime and no whea errors is good enough for me.

Futher, you don't provide other information of your BIOS settings. If you have other voltages set on auto, or a high offset voltage, I'm not surprised you are hitting 90° because IBT will make your CPU call for ALOT more voltage than neccessary. How much voltage does CPU-Z say your CPU is getting?

What are your idle and normal temps? If you idle at 30 and normal load at 60 - I'm not convinced you installed the heatsink wrong to start with.

Keep in mind also, after a new install, the temps should drop a few degrees after the thermal paste works its way into the microscopic cavaties of your heatsink and heat spreader. Usually there is a "burn in" time of 200 hours or so.

I have had the fan installed for about a month and I set the voltages to 1.2v as stated above!
