Moments ago I had my laptop fall with a failed table strut. When I got to the computer, it was acting strange, slow and non responsive. I shut it down but now I'm stuck in a startup repair loop, and both CD start up repair and regular startup repair both freeze before any options are given to me. Even attempting to install windows brand new ends in a blank splash screen with mouse control.

I'm guessing maybe the hard drive died on impact with the floor? I opened everything, checked over the components, to find nothing out of the ordinary, hard drive seemed fine, but I'm not able to tell anything beyond that.

Should I continue to replace the hard drive? Or do you have any ideas of what I might try?

I was going to try and run Ubuntu to try and recover some important files, do you think this can work with a drive already being funky? Maybe it'll give me some answers also.

check that with the power off that your ram on the bottom of the laptop is seated. your best bet if you need data on the drive is plug the drive into a usb port with a drive cable kit and yous a recovery software. most laptop drops will kill hard drive as the head will hit the drive platters causing a head crash.

I have tried adjusting the RAM, cycled it, and whatnot, had no luck or change of anything. I realized that the fall was nasty, and figured it may have been ruined. I'm wondering if it'd be a good idea just to head out and pick up a new drive. Also, I never knew they had a cable to attach to the hard drive. I'll consider that instead of a more complex solution.
