I am looking at either upgrading my current PC or starting new for the purpose of gaming. My current PC is:

HP Pavilion p6210y - Full specs here: http://tinyurl.com/pacm4pa

Quick specs:

AMD Athlon II x4 620 2.60 GHz
6 GB RAM
64-bit

The only thing that isn't stock on my machine is the Video Card. I put a GeForce 210 in a few years back.

What I'm wondering is, would I be able to play some newer games if I were to upgrade to a GeForce GTX 660 and upgrade the PSU? I'm not really all that concerned about setting all the graphics to ultra or playing in HD or anything like that. I have lately been getting into playing games through Steam, and there have been a few games that looked fun, but I know my video card would have a heart attack if I even attempted to run some of them.

I don't really want to start fresh if I don't have to. I'd like to keep the budget under $500, but if it comes down to it, my budget is somewhat flexible.

Thanks!

I would recommend a new start/platform. You can get great deals on FX 6300 CPU's and boards...and 6xx series nVidia cards can be found for a song if you check out used ones. No need to spend alot to have a radically different gaming experience.

Good luck on your plans friend!

Well looking at your desktop specs tells me, you could probably skimp out on the HDD and just grab a i5-4670K thats roughly $275 AUD, and then grab a ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 KILLER for $179 (seeing as you might wanna give crossfire a go +its been recommended by Australia's 1# PC Mag :D ) keep your case and then grab a 280x GPU $369 AUD, lastly get 8GB of RAM for $69 AUD and finally a Corsair V650 $72 AUD so basically switch out the mobo, gpu, RAM ,cpu and PSU but it still adds up to $945AUD, but if your in the US you could grab it for roughly $700 in the US. Trust me mate i know how hard it is finding a good PC
