I have a friend selling me 2 gtx 580s for 200$. I think that's a helluva deal and I can recoup later when Maxwell releases. Rather than dropping 400/500 on a 780.

I'm kinda worried because my case that I'm gonna build in is a corsair 350D.

If they are both reference blower design then you will be ok in terms of case temps, and for that price, you are getting an absolute steal, just make sure your power supply can handle it and that you have at least 2 intake fans (1 bottom and one front perhaps)

You might as well hand your friend $200, you'll be actually be saving a lot!
With Maxwell "right around the corner", a 780 is a terrible investment. As it's likely to only have the graphical power of a mid range GPU, ...in a few months time:)

We're all be wanting the successor to the 680/770, 280X.

The 580 was released in November 2010. They must be way more than a year old.
Even the 680 is old, March 2012.
But for $200 it doesn't matter.

Although... if I needed something to "hold me over", I'd probably get an Asus R9-270(non X).

Age wise they're aging, however I was with him when they were purchased on black Friday in 2012, he used them for a few months before he sli'd 2 770s. I've been trying to get them off him your free but he isn't nudging lol but 200$ for 2 is basically free.

So should I proceed? I'm using a 750G psu by evga

sadly that 750 watt psu may not be enough to run both of them. the 580 is still good enough to max out most games, and maxwell is not due till at least the end of summer (the 750ti is maxwell, but you are looking for more performance than that).

the 780 will still be a great card capable of maxing out most games, so will still be considered a high end card, it just won't be the top tier of high end. It will be like what the 670 and 7950 were compared to the 7xx generation and 2xx generation. I'd just use one of those 580's for now, as each one is just as fast as the current gtx 760 which are roughly $230 a piece. You could try using both, but it would be cutting it close for the power supply you have

edit: the 760 is slightly faster in games and uses less power, but is still much more expensive than what you are paying

I intend to under clock them. However, I'm using an i5 not an i7, with a h75 cooling it single 250 gig ssd and that's pretty much it. I won't be overclocking as it's quite redundant at this point.

Antec rates my 90% load @664W. This is including 4 140W fans, 2 120s, and dual channel memory.

1920 x 1080. The thing here is I can't really afford a 400/500 dollar expense atm. I just intend to use these until the real max well chips drop then sell them for what I can and put that towards the new card.
